The best known linguistic cousins of Mon are Khmer (Cambodian) and
Vietnamese. Mon-Khmer languages, along with Nicobarese and the Munda
languages of India together form the Austroasiatic family.
Mon is written in an Indic-based alphabet which is derived from
Pali.
